Dear Members and friends 3-1-2008
The final month to hunt is upon us; the
fields are in pretty good shape, with no snow to speak of, and
not much standing water at the time of this writing anyways. We
have plenty of birds left and a number of specials to choose
from to finish the hunting season with. So call a few hunting
partners up and book a hunt before the mosquitoes show up and
send us all back indoors till fall.
April Members’ Special
When you put out 20 or more pheasants or
chuckar we will lower the bird price $2 each the whole month of
April or until we are out of birds
Swamp Hunt Results
We had kind of an unusual swamp hunt this
year; for one thing it was a “members’ only” event this year,
and it is the first year that I can remember that it was not 30
below and windy, in fact it was 40 above with sun and no wind.
We had six hunters for the first “members’ only” swamp hunt this
year, which may seem like a small amount, but with the caliber
of these rugged individuals six was a surmountable number.
Timber took first place, with the help of companion Bill
Goodreau, Second place went to Coal and Lance Olson, and third
place went to Zuebin and Rich Gannon. We would also like to
Thank Haas and Bob Joyce, Ben and Jim Beard, Teigan and Mark
Cochran, and a special thanks to Rich “the evil overlord judge”
Anderson for all his help.
End of the Season Hunts
The end of season hunt package is set to
include; 40 pheasants, 20 Chuckar, 15 Quail.
We will be running this special starting
April 17th (Thursday) through April 20th
(Sunday). All this action for the incredibly low-low price of
$900 plus tax, per field. Clothing optional as long as something
is Blaze Orange on your person.
Tower Shoot
If you like to shoot and like to shoot a
lot, we have a fun event planned for Saturday, April 19th.
We will release 300 pheasants from our tower on the sporting
clays course (no not the high shooting stand, we have a tower in
the middle of the course.) and twenty shooters will have the
opportunity to shoot these high flying birds. This is limited to
twenty shooters, and we must have twenty shooters signed up with
$100 deposit paid by April 13th, or we can not have
the shoot. We will also serve lunch after the event. The total
cost is $250 per shooter. I will hold your deposits until the
shoot with the balance due the day of. If we do not get twenty
shooters your deposit will be returned.
North vs. South, Shoot
Once again the south has risen and they
are headed north. We need every member to answer this call to
arms. Actually, we will be having a fun shoot with the very
gracious folks from the Forest Lake Sportsmen’s Club. April 26th
we will start at the Forest Lake Sportsmen’s Club at 8am where
we will shoot 100 rounds on their sporting clays course, and
then we will head north to Wings and shoot another 100 rounds
with a lunch following the shooting. There will be cash payout
in Lewis class as well. This will also be a registered shoot if
you are NSCA shooter. The cost is $100 for the whole package.
Please sign up soon so that we can plan lunch.
Summer Sporting Clays League
May 1st we will start our
summer sporting clays league. This year the league will be 8
rounds instead of 10. We need to have a minimum of ten teams
this year to run the league, so we need your help in recruiting
teams, and to help recruit we will be giving away a gun for
every 10 teams that sign up. Every shooter that finishes the
league their name will be put in for a drawing on a gun. As you
know May 1st we will also be Non-toxic for all
shooting here at Wings North including trap and clays. We will
make every effort to have affordable ammo on hand. With the way
prices on lead has been going up it is comparable or cheaper to
shoot steel now. So we hope this will not keep you from shooting
with us this year. Besides so much of what we hunt requires
non-toxic we may as well practice with it. I have sent along
this years rule and a roster.
Around the Farm
Bird counts are pheasants 4117, Chuckar
684, Quail 178. Wings North will have a booth at the MNPLS Sport
Show April 2-6, so stop buy and say hey if your are going. The
last day to hunt will be Sunday May 4th, so there is
still time to get a hunt or two in yet.
